Getting to Know Sonya Boatwright

What made you want to become a real estate agent?

I wanted to do a job that was people-focused and that really made a difference in their lives.

What is your favorite thing about being a real estate agent?

Seeing the look on the clients’ faces when they find the perfect house. It is a pretty obvious change in expression and it’s a big win for me.

How long have you been a Realtor?

Four years.

What are you typically doing when you aren’t working?

Reading outside. I love being out in the fresh air absorbing a new and exciting story.

Which part of the buying/selling process excites you the most, why?

Finding the right fit and getting all the details to make the offer. It is game time at this point, excitement and anxiety are at an all time high. I’m always putting my clients’ offers at the top of my priorities so I feel a similar “holding your breath” feeling while waiting for a response. I want them to get their dream home as much as they do.

What characteristic(s) makes you a great agent?

Dedication to finding the correct home for the client’s current and future needs, and ease of access to me. I’m just a text away and I’m always happy to answer any question they might have, even if they think it might be silly.

What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond?

Visit breweries with my pups, my husband, and my friends. Richmond has an amazing beer scene and I love to share it with new clients and friends alike.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to buy/sell a home?

Be decisive but also open minded. Meaning, when you find a house you love, act on it quickly. When it comes to the negotiations, let your realtor try to look for a win-win for both sides.

What is the first thing that catches your eye when you walk into a home?

Sunlight, how fresh and bright the home feels.

What is something your clients can expect when they work with you?

All their questions answered and to become new friends.

What did you do before you became a Realtor?

Graphic design.

How has the pandemic changed the way you work with clients?

Initial consults are done online or on the phone and showings are done in a safe, mask wearing, hand-sanitized way.
