Getting to Know Kori Langlie

Which part of the buying/selling process excites you the most, why?

I am always excited by referrals because it means someone appreciated what I did for them and their family, and was so happy and thought highly enough about their experience with me to encourage someone else to use my services.

What characteristic(s) makes you a great agent?

I feel like I am good at interacting with lots of different personalities and circumstances. I’m usually very patient, and I try to never push someone in a certain direction but rather help them find the direction they want to go in. My job is to share my knowledge and expertise and guide my clients, but ultimately they make the final decision and I want them to feel ownership of that.

What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond?

I love trying out new restaurants! I have a favorite restaurant in every single part of RVA, but unfortunately that is on hold (take out only!) because of the pandemic, so right now I am exploring different areas by hiking. If you know of a great place to hike within an hour, please tell me! RVA has a lot of outdoor fun to offer.

What is the first thing that catches your eye when you walk into a home?

Usually the first thing I notice is the condition. While the client is spending time thinking about whether this is the house for them, I am looking around to notice if it’s been well maintained. Even a newly renovated home can sometimes have major issues if only the superficial stuff was “fixed up” while major concerns were swept aside. I want my client to go into their new home with all the information we can gather.

What is something your clients can expect when they work with you?

Clear expectations of the process, honest communication, lots of detail and attention on their search or sale, and follow up! Once someone becomes a client, they are a client for life!

What did you do before you became a Realtor?

I was an office manager at a business brokerage, and before that I was a stay at home Mom for my twins who are now 14.

What made you want to become a real estate agent?

I didn’t want to! But after getting my license to help with transactions that came through the business brokerage I worked at, I helped my first buyers find a home and was hooked after that. The stars just aligned for me and I found my niche.

What is your favorite thing about being a real estate agent?

I love the variety of my days! Of course there are lots of routines and details that are the same from transaction to transaction, but the people always vary and every deal has a lot of unique qualities.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to buy/sell a home?

Use a realtor! Mistakes in real estate are expensive, and you may not even know you made them. We have the experience and negotiation skills to help you avoid making many of them.

How long have you been a Realtor?

Just over five years.

How has the pandemic changed the way you work with clients?

Practically, I am very aware of people’s health and safety, for example I use plenty of masks and sanitizer. If I’m representing the buyer, we make sure to follow the homeowner’s wishes (booties, no children, etc.) and if I’m representing the seller, we make the instructions clear for any potential buyers as well. Personally, I spend a lot more time talking through situations with future buyers and sellers. We need to be a lot more creative on both ends of the deal due to people needing to be home quite a lot more. It’s definitely an ever changing situation and I do try to stay on top of current health and safety recommendations.
